Solicitors offer

January 28th, 2013

Happy New Year!!

At Big Blue Bike we are really looking forward to 2013. Big plans are in the pipeline to make deliveries in Cardiff greener, more efficient and city friendly. To kick off 2013 we have introduced a delivery deal for solicitors in Cardiff. Why solicitors?? Our current solicitor clients move large amounts in the city centre already, using our cargo bike service. But there are a few firms out there who dont use us. (we cant understand it either!)

So we’ve reduced our prices for solicitors and now offer a same day collection and delivery (selected areas) for only £3, regardless of size of consignment. Booking in can be done upto 10am on the same day.

If you know of any solicitors in Cardiff who would be interested then please pass on our details or send them the advert below.

Thanks and have a great 2013.

Energy bars

November 13th, 2011

First post in a while…. been too busy!

The subject of what to eat when on the road all day in the wind, rain etc is subject to much debate, but what I know is that energy bars work for me.

Occasionaly I’ll indulge in these from Pulsin foods or if I’m feeling really flush, Clif bars. So with a few hours to spare on a Sunday I got my apron out and made my own energy bars.

I visited Hungry Planet , a local health food shop in Cardiff to see what ingredients they had. I wanted bars that didn’t have eggs or fat in them. No particularly ethical reason behind this, I just couldnt be bothered to cook them, let them cool etc.

I found rice malt syrup (to help bind the bars) and some brown rice flakes (to add some bulk, texture and be slow burning)

The requirements for me for an energy bar is it has to fill me up, be nutritious and taste good aswell. I love whole fruit peices in my bars (cranberries, dried cherries etc) but also like nuts, spices, seeds, protein powder, chocolate, basically I’m not fussy!

This is what they turned out like after 12hrs in the fridge to firm up.

Recipe: To fill 9 x 9 tin

200g of wholegrain oats

200g of brown rice flakes

300ml of apple juice

2 tablespoons rice malt syrup

handful of apricot (diced)

handful of figs (diced)

handful of prunes (diced)

handful of dates (diced)

handful of sultanas

handful of cranberries

1 tablespoon mixed spice

1/2 tablespoon ground ginger

Weigh the oats, rice flakes, spices and place in a large bowl. Add the apple juice and let it soak into the dry ingredients. Add the malt syrup. Stir to incorporate the liquid into the dry ingredients and use your judgement to see if its too dry or too wet. If too dry then add some more liquid (apple juice as the syrup is expensive!) or if too dry then add more oats.

Add the fruit and stir.

Dump the mix into the tin and smooth out, so that all the edges are filled and it is equal thickness all over.

Refridgerate for 12hrs and then cut and wrap into individual portions. Keep in fridge for up to a week.
